Phrasal Verbs

This week I have learnt about phrasal verbs. ^^

Most verbs have only one main part, but phrasal verbs have at least two. The adverb or preposition in a phrasal verb is called a particle. Phrasal verbs usually follow one of these patterns:
verb + adverb
I wrote down her message.

verb + preposition
Please hand in your homework.

verb + adverb + preposition
You can't get away with cheating!

The meaning of a phrasal verb is often different from the meanings of the verb and particle by themselves.

Some phrasal verbs are intransitive. They do not need an object. However, you can use an adverb or a prepositional phrase after these verbs.

Intransitive Phrasal Verbs

Intransitive phrasal verbs cannot be followed by an object. You can use adverbs or prepositional phrases after these verbs.

I can't hear you. Please, speak up!
Did you go out last night?
Please hang on for a moment!

Questions

Information Questions
If you want information, you can ask information questions. These questions always begin with a question word or phrase.
What When Where Which
Who Whom Whose Why
How How far How long How many
How much How often How old How tall
Yes/No Quections
If you want a yes or no answer, you can ask a yes/no question. These questions begin with an auxiliary verb such as is, does, can, etc. Look at the example below.
Is he our new teacher?
Does he come from overseas?
Can he speak Cantonese?
Is he married?
Tag Questions
When you expect someone to agree with you, you can use a tag question. Tag questions are really statements with a yes/no question added at the end.
IT's going to rain, isn't it?
You didn't bring an umbrella, didn't you?

Tom Sawyer's funny trick and two important laws.

1. "What have you beeen doing?" Aunt Polly asked angrily. When Tom did not answer, she went on, "You've been stealing the jam again. Don't tell me that you haven't! Haven't I told you a hundred times to keep away from that cupboard? Where's my stick?" Aunt Polly took her stick and raised it high. She was readt to strike Tom hard! ><
"Look behind you, Auntie!" shouted Tom.
Aunt POlly looked behind her. This was Tom's chance. He rushed out of the house. He climbed over the fence. Soon he was far away!!!

2. He had discovered two important laws. The first was: If a man must do something hard, then that is work. If he likes to do something hard, then that is not work. The second law was: If we cannot get something, we want it badly. If we can get something easily, we do not want it.

See you!!

Tom Sawyer

This week I leart from a storybook in English lesson. This book is called The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer, written by Mark Twain. It is about Tom Sawyer who was a little boy came from a poor family. This is related th the autor.
Mark Twain is one of the most popular American writers of the nineteenth century. His family was poor. Mark Twain left school at the age of thirteen to work as a printer. In his leisure time, he began to work on a boat which sailed up and down the Mississippi River. It was here that he met the characters he describes in his books. Many of his stories are about his journeys on the Mississippi."The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" is the best-known of his books.
The book describes the boyhood of Tom Sawyer, an orphan, who lives with his kind Aunt Polly. Tom is a cheerful, honest, lively boy. His adventures have delighted boys and girls all over the world.
From this book, I can see how American lived in the past. It is funny. And I feel interesting and happy when I am reading "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". The book is enjoyable.Let's read!
